Maria Conceicao Resendes, 95

Maria Conceicalo Resendes, age 95, of Mansfield, formerly of Taunton, Passed away comfortably at home, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Freitas Cabral, to whom she was wed for thirteen years at the time of his young death on September 11, 1966.

Born in Santa Maria, Acores, Portugal on April 7, 1930, she was a loving daughter of the late Manuel Francisco Resendes and Antonia Jesus Freitas.

Maria grew up and was educated in Portugal, where she worked very hard as a seamstress to support her family. On April 22, 1972, she moved to the United States, first settling in Taunton and again working hard as a machine operator at the Robertson Curtain Factory, in the Weir section of Taunton, and also at a yarn manufacturing company in the Whittenton neighborhood of Taunton.

A resident of Mansfield for the past thirty-six years, Maria was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and cherished the times spent with her adoring family. Her favorite pastimes included crocheting, word search puzzles, watching Daily Mass on TV and a special love for collecting scapulars, amongst other religious articles.

She is survived by her devoted children, Jose Cabral and his wife Connie of Taunton, Joao Cabral and his wife Joana of Taunton, Ines Burke and her husband Donald of Mansfield and Maria Cabral and her husband Jordao of East Providence, RI. She was the treasured grandmother of Walter Cabral and his wife Liz of Canada, Steven Cabral and his wife Yanery of Dighton, Jason Cabral and his wife Erica of Dighton, Nelson Cabral and his wife Venus of Taunton, Christine Cabral and her husband David of Cumberland, RI, David Cabral of Swansea, Jessica Burke of Milford, CT, Melissa Burke of Mansfield and the late Debbie Cabral. She is also survived by her loving 14 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and was pre-deceased by her 12 brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, March 21st from 10:00-A.M. – 12:00 Noon at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Following visiting hours on Saturday at the funeral home, her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 P.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
