Herman E. Buschenfeldt, a resident of Stoughton for seventy-nine years, passed away on Friday September 8, 2006, following a short illness, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was eighty-four years old. He was the beloved husband of Lois E. (Arpin) Buschenfeldt for 62 years.
Born June 7, 1922 in New York City, he was a son of the late Karl W. and Gertrude (Sieswerda) Buschenfeldt.
He attended Stoughton Public Schools, Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University where he studied to become a Certified Orthotist. He continued his education in the field of Orthoties and after graduating from college was able to work in his families business Karl W. Buschenfeldt & Son, and served as Company President, until he retired in 1998.
Mr. Buschenfeldt was also the Past President of New England Orthotists and Prosthetists and a Past Director of the American Orthotists & Prosthetists Association (AOPA) and also a proud member of the American Academy Of Orthotists and Prosthetics (AAOOP).
Mr. Buschenfeldt was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served his country in WWII, where he was a Gunnery Mate 2nd Class. He saw military action in the European Theater, Pacific Theater and was directly involved in the “D” Day Invasion of Iwo Jima and the Okinawa Islands.
He was a dedicated and proud member of The American Legion Post # 89 in Stoughton, the Michael Romanuk VFW Post # 1645 also in Stoughton , the Navy Armed Guard, The LST Association and the Massachusetts Chapter Of LSTier’s.
Mr. Buschenfeldt was a sixty year member of the Trinity Episcopal Church (Trinity Parish) in Stoughton. He served on the Vestry for many years and served as Junior Warden for six years, was a member of the Finance Committee for twenty years, the Property Committee for 25 years and most recently as the churches Senior Usher for over forty years.
He also enjoyed building ship models and gardening.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Karen Thompson and her husband Allen of East Bridgewater, Joyce Costa and her husband Edward of Wrentham, her grandchildren, Kasey Costa of Wrentham, Michael Costa and his fiancee’ Christina Matz of Walpole, his sisters, Theresa “Rae” Pierce of Brockton, Gertrude “Sis” Beaucaire of Halifax, Nancy Saunders of Cotuit, and his brother Anton Buschenfeldt of Mashpee. He was also a brother to the late Sgt. Karl W. Buschenfeldt Jr. and Marjorie Downs.
His funeral mass will be held on Friday September 15, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 414 Sumner Street, Stoughton. The Reverend Fr. Robert R.M. Bagwell, officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, North Stoughton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 14, 2006 from 5-8 P.M. in the funeral home.
