
Joan H. (Christian) Sopp, age 83, a longtime resident of Andover and beloved wife of Brian Sopp, passed away at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill on March 7th.
Born in Boston, Joan lived in Brookline and spent her high school years in Harwich, MA. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Lawrence and Faith H. (King) Christian. Joan was a Registered Nurse who loved caring for and encouraging people and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her kind nature made her someone who was quick to make friends, and she especially cherished her time and experiences with her granddaughters, Lauren and Morgan.
Joan was a very active person who excelled at many activities including tennis and golf and enjoyed spending time outside, especially in her well-tended gardens. She spent many happy winters in Sarasota, FL. Joan was also an animal lover who had several well-loved pets and volunteered her time to care for wild animals. She will be dearly missed.
Besides her husband of 59 years Brian, Joan was the loving mother of daughter Karen, who predeceased her, and son David and his wife Julie Sopp of Winchester, and adoring grandmother to Lauren and Morgan Sopp. She leaves her sister Barbara Decker of Seattle, WA and brother Donald Christian of Portland, OR, along with many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be celebrated in South Church, 41 Central Street, Andover on March 20th at 10:30AM with a reception to follow at Andover Country Club. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Joan H. Sopp to support Dr. Chan's Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Fund. Donations to Dana-Farber may be made at dana-farber.org/give or through mail or phone.
