Retha Shannon

Retha Shannon, 89, passed away on March 6, 2026 at Magnolia Springs – Bridgewater Memory Care in Carmel, Indiana.
She is survived by her sister Norma, brother Leland, son Brian (Jayma), son Bradley (Cindy), grandchildren (Michelle, Casey, Kevin, Ryan, and Brandon), and great-grandchildren (Elliott and Liam) as well as several cousins, nephews, and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Michael, parents Lacy and Zula Bailey, brothers (Junior, Curtis, and Emmett), sisters (Violet, Stella, Beatrice, and Betty) and her still-born daughter Sharon.
Retha was born in Baileysville, West Virginia on April 8, 1936 and moved to Anderson, Indiana in 1956, where she volunteered at St John’s Hospital and was an assistant for Dr Donald Bixler’s opthalmology practice. Retha and Michael also lived in Monroe, Louisiana and Evansville, Indiana before retiring to Sun City Center, Florida.
She loved cooking, walking, and spending time with family; playing cards, games, and golf; and being involved in several social clubs. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Visitation will be held at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, in Anderson, Indiana on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 1-3 PM. A private family committal service at East Maplewood Cemetery will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Retha’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
