Obituary

CHICOPEE – Bruce N. Centerbar, 73, of Chicopee, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Harmony House in Chicopee following a year-long battle with cancer. He was born in Holyoke on October 17, 1952, a beloved son of the late George B. and Lorraine J. (Lariviere) Centerbar. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1970 and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He was employed at Uniroyal and later built a long career as a skilled tool and die maker. Over the years, he worked for Van Valkenburg, Tite Flex and later retired from Fountain Plating. He was a member of the Moose Family Center in Chicopee. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. During his life, he earned a second-degree black belt in Hapkido and Taekwondo. He loved playing cards, shooting pool, hiking, flying kites, spending time at the beach and was a great cook. He also enjoyed a good bourbon tasting. He entertained everyone with his joke telling, quick wit and quirky personality – traits he maintained until his final day. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He leaves his two loving children, Adam Centerbar and his wife, Andrea, of Fortson, GA and Amy Cummings and her husband, Jamie, of South Windsor, CT; his grandson, Seth Centerbar and his wife, Jenny of Fortson, GA; his great granddaughter, Lydia; his brother, Russell Centerbar and his wife, Lynne, of Chicopee; his sister, Michele Jonikas and her husband, John, of Middleton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his dear friends, Ed and Rhonda Skiba, Mark Walas and Kim Haight, David and Lisa Thompson and Maria Mitchell. His funeral services and burial will be private.
