RALEIGH, N.C. – Anne (Hentigian) Whelan, age 85, a former resident of Tewksbury for 40 years, died on Friday, September 8, 2006, at a local Raleigh, NC, nursing facility, where she had made her home for the past 3 years. She was married for 50 years to the late Ignatius “Babe” Whelan who died in 1993.
She was born on March 4, 1921, in Lawrence MA, the daughter of the late Hagop and Mary (Kamboorian) Hentigian.
Before retiring, Mrs. Whelan was one of the first one hundred employees at the former Wang Laboratories in Tewksbury.
Surviving members of her family include a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and David Leney of North Carolina; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Lou (Baril) Whelan of New Hampshire; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Dora Paroyian of Lowell, and Helen Kalajian of Watertown,MA; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Lucy Loosigian. Her Funeral Service was held on Saturday, September 23 in the funeral home. Graveside service followed at Tewksbury Cemetery.
