Philip Vincent Barden, Jr. of West Roxbury passed away in his home on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 89.

Loving husband of the late Ann (Furden) and devoted father of the late Philip V. Barden III (Maureen).

He is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and his brother-in-law, Eugene Furden.

Phil was born in Boston on August 13, 1936, and proudly remained a lifelong Boston resident. He grew up in the South End, the son of Philip V. Barden and Mehitable (Woolsey) Barden King. He was educated in Boston Public Schools including the Abraham Lincoln School and Boston Trade High School. On June 16, 1955, Phil proudly enlisted in the US Army and served stateside at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was discharged in June of 1957. He began his career in electrical engineering at MIT Lincoln Labs, retired from GTE/Sylvania and in retirement, consulted at MIT Lincoln Labs. A highlight of his career was working on government satellites on the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands.

Phil was an active resident of West Roxbury and St. Theresa of Avila Parish. It was at St. Theresa’s that he received the sacraments as he converted to Catholicism before marrying Ann on May 5, 1962. He was involved in the P.T.A., variety shows and the church choir. Phil’s interests included the Red Sox and Patriots, visiting Hampton Beach and his beloved Castle Island, music, history and the evolution of the city. He enjoyed rides downtown to see the next new development with the backdrop of the enduring Public Garden and Boston Common. “Wow, I can’t believe how much it has changed down here!”
May he rest in peace with his loved ones.
