Obituary

Fritz Slinkard Chambers
February 25, 1943- February 13, 2026

Fritz Slinkard Chambers, 82, of Daleville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, in Fishers, Indiana.

He was born on February 25, 1943, in Muncie, Indiana, to Ancil and Loucille (Slinkard) Chambers. Raised in Daleville, Fritz grew up working in his family’s apple orchard, where he learned the value of hard work at an early age. He enjoyed playing sports and fishing, pursuits that reflected his competitive spirit and lifelong love of the outdoors.

A lifelong resident of Daleville, Fritz graduated from Daleville High School in 1961, where he played both basketball and baseball. On June 4, 1966, he married Suzetta “Suzy” Shaffer at the Daleville Methodist Church. He began his working career at Warner Gear in Muncie before dedicating 35 years to Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana, retiring in 2001.

Outside of work, Fritz devoted his time to coaching Little League baseball and followed Indiana Hoosiers basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed working on cars and had a knack for fixing just about anything that needed attention.

Summers with his family were often spent traveling the country in an RV, camping, canoeing, and making frequent trips to watch the Cincinnati Reds. In later years, Fritz and his family enjoyed traveling abroad, visiting Paris in 2010 and London in 2012.

Over the last 25 years of his life, Fritz courageously battled two forms of cancer.

He was a devoted member of Springport Christian Church and valued his church family deeply, especially the Thursday Night Supper Club gatherings at the Iron Kettle. Though often reserved, Fritz possessed a sharp wit. In the right company, he could light up a room with a perfectly timed one-liner. He was a gifted storyteller who treasured time spent with family and friends.
Fritz was an honest, loyal, and hardworking man who always tried to do what was right. Above all, he loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his two sons, Chris (Jodi McDonald) Chambers of Indianapolis and Bryan (Timothy Malinovsky) Chambers of Orlando, Florida; two grandchildren, Emilia Chambers-Malinovsky and Jake Werner; his twin sister, Dianne Norris of Noblesville; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Jeannie Babb of Athens, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzy; his parents, Ancil and Loucille Chambers; and his twin brothers, Jan and Joe Chambers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 South Rangeline Road, Anderson, Indiana 46012, with Pastor Tad Mills officiating. A private burial will take place at Tomlinson Cemetery in Muncie.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Springport Christian Church.
