Dale W. Bishop, age 67, a lifelong resident of Norton passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Velma “Vel” (Peaden) Bishop, to whom he was wed for forty-three years.
Born in Attleboro, MA on June 3, 1958, he was a loving son of Paula R. (Yelle) Bishop of Wrentham and the late William L. Bishop.
Dale grew up in Norton and was a 1976 graduate of Norton High School. He proudly served his country for four years in the United States Marine Corps. Dale was honorably discharged on January 13, 1981, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.
A member of a well-known Norton family, Dale successfully owned and operated Dale Bishop’s Pig Pickin, a mobile catering service he and Vel built with his father-in-law and their shared passion for BBQ. . He was the former owner of the Outlaw BBQ in Foxboro and previously served as a Police Officer for the communities of Mansfield and Norton.
Dale’s favorite times by far, were those spent in the presence of his adoring family and friends, especially his grandchildren whom he was affectionately known as “Bella”. He was the world’s most avid and loyal fan of the New England Patriots, enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting and was always tinkering or fixing something or taking on projects around the house. He had a passion for helping others whenever possible and he will be remembered for his huge heart and strong work ethics.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children, Joshua D. Bishop of Norton, Brittany R. Coulter of Norton and Casey L. Shaw and her husband JD of South Carolina. He was the cherished and proud grandfather of Ryder, Cali, Logan, Harper, Lucas and Codi. He was the dear brother of David A. Bishop of Norton, Steven P. Bishop and his fiancé Traci O’Connor of Norton and Linda G. Johansson and her husband Bruce of New Hampshire. He was the much-loved brother-in-law of Kevin Peaden of North Carolina and the loving son-in-law of the late Willis and Polly Peaden of Havelock, North Carolina. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday, February 22nd from 1:00-4:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 4:00 P.M. in the funeral home with a reception and continued celebration of Dales’ life to follow at the Norton VFW, 38 Summer Street in Norton.
Burial will be held privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Dale’s family has requested that contributions be made to the Kyle Bishop Memorial Fund, 33 Goldenwood Drive, Norton, MA 02766, a charity so dear to Dale’s heart.
