Arthur C. Lane, age 81, of Bristol, RI, formerly of Woonsocket, RI and Norton, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the Newport Hospital in Newport, RI.
Born in Worcester, MA on November 26, 1944, he was a loving son of the late Arthur C. and Anne (Frankus) Lane.
Art grew up in Norton and was a graduate of Norton High School, where he excelled in track. During the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the United States Army with his good friend Bill Alston. Following 6 ½ years of service, he was honorably discharged on December 14, 1973 with the rank of Captain. For his bravery and service to Country and fellow Army veterans, he was awarded many medals and citations which included being the recipient of two Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star.
Mr. Lane was very proud of his job and accomplishments as a Project Manager for the Department of Defense. He had made his home in Bristol for the past 2 ½ years and was a former resident of Woonsocket and his hometown of Norton.
Art’s family and friends always came first, as well as his love for nature and all things outdoors. He was a member of the Woonsocket American Legion Post 85 and a lifetime member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. Art’s other interests were a special love for Italian sport cars, being an avid Red Sox fan, gardening, woodworking, golfing and biking.
He was the devoted father of Samantha A. Long and her husband Brian of Blackstone, Elizabeth King of Land-O’-Lakes, Florida and the late Sabrina S. Tonner, who is survived by her husband John Tonner of Georgia. He was the cherished grandfather of Alyssa, Rachel, Maggie, Shannon, Abriel, Grace, Brady and the great grandfather of Jamie and Lainey. He was the dear brother of Frances Dennery and her husband Dan of Milton, Delaware, Arnold Lane and his late wife Martha of Attleboro, Marge Silva and her husband Henry of Venice, Florida, Carol Campbell and her husband Bob of Walpole and the late Anne Lane, Anthony Lane and Alan Lane. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews and former wives Linda Zamarripa of Woonsocket and Lorraine Lane of Florida.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, February 27th from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
Following the visitation, a funeral procession will leave for the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI where military honors will be rendered for Captain Lane at 1:00 P.M.
