Obituary

CANTERBURY --- Edwin Archer Allard, of Canterbury, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. He died in the house he built in 2003, a place he loved and took pride in.

Ed was originally from Laconia, New Hampshire, and later made his home in Canterbury, where he built a life rooted in independence, creativity, and care for the world around him.

He was the owner of his own granite business and took pride in his work. A lifelong learner, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Franklin Pierce College and later self-published a book on Amazon, reflecting his curiosity and creative spirit. He was also an avid diecast car enthusiast, a hobby he enjoyed deeply.

Ed had a strong appreciation for nature and the environment. He found quiet joy in birdwatching from his window and spending time in his yard. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his warm smile, and his love of Boston sports. Some of his most cherished moments were spent watching games and playing cribbage and Scrabble with his wife.

Ed is survived by his wife, Diane Norton; his daughter, Brianna Allard, whom he shared with his former wife, Mary Allard; his brother, Dennis Allard; and his beloved Rhodesian Ridgeback, Necco. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernestine and Wilbur Allard, and his sister, Suzie.

In keeping with his wishes, Edwin will be cremated, and his ashes will be spread in his yard, the place he called home. A gathering to remember and honor his life will be shared with loved ones in a way that reflects his values and spirit.

Ed’s presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.
