
Steven “Steve” Nicholas Gilbert of Ventura, CA passed away peacefully in his home on January 28th, 2026. Steve was born in Oakland, CA to parents John and Marcella Gilbert on Aug 11, 1947. He went to high school in San Leandro, CA. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 24, 1966 and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on October 23, 1970. Shortly after enlisting he met his wife Pat and were married on November 16, 1967. They were married for 56 years until Pat passed away 3 days before their 57th anniversary in 2024. Steve enjoyed being with friends and family either at the VFW, Elks lodge or the Moose lodge. Steve was a member of so many organizations and held several offices in a few of them including Commander of the VFW Post 1679 for 3 years, Exalted Ruler of BPOE Elks Ventura lodge #1430 and District Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus after being Grand Knight of Council #2498. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Odd Fellows of Ventura, the Ventura Moose lodge #1394 and the YMCA Indian Guides. Steve also enjoyed playing golf and fishing from time to time.
Steve is survived by his daughter Stacey Gilbert of Oxnard, CA (Jenna Bernick), grandson Brodee Gilbert of Prescott, AZ, daughter-in-law Amanda Ziegler of Anthony, KS (Larry), granddaughter Victoria Johnson of Anthony, KS, granddaughter Emma Johnson of Missoula, MT, sister Dolly Danielson (Michael) of Ammon, ID, sister-in-law Peggy Bautista of (David) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Gilbert, son Shawn Gilbert, grandson Anthony Gilbert, parents John and Marcella Gilbert, brother Dennis Gilbert, and sister Susan Gilbert.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Friday March 6, 2026 from 5 to 8pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday morning March 7, 2026 at 11:00am in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura., Reception to follow at VFW Post 1679 located at 3801 Market St. Ventura, CA 93003
