
James Leon Mullis, Jr., 85, of Tifton passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Harborview Nursing Center in Tifton surrounded by his loving family. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Mullis at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Tift Memorial Gardens, where he will be laid to rest. A eulogy will be given by Harold Chambers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born July 25, 1940, in Tifton, Mr. Mullis was the son of the late James Leon Mullis, Sr. and Madge Revels Mullis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon Mullis; one brother, Earl Mullis; and one sister, Betty Plair. He graduated from Tift County High School and received an Associate Degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Before retiring, he was the former owner of Masco Signs in Tifton. He enjoyed playing Bluegrass music, and he was a member of the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame. He was also a member of Georgia National Guard.
Mr. Mullis is survived by his wife, Martha Harper Mullis of Tifton; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Wendell Mullis, Christy and Kathy Cooper and Keyth McMillan, all of Tifton; one brother, Melvin Mullis of Adel; four grandchildren and their spouses, Candie Mullis, Tiffany and Craig Thompson, Austin Cooper and Dustin and Kristen Cooper; and four great-grandchildren, Braxton Thompson, Leo Thompson, Nolan Cooper and Ava Cooper.
