Richard Medeiros, 82, passed away on February 3, 2026, after a long decline in health. Born on September 24, 1943, Richard was raised in Cambridge, Ma, a city he loved deeply.
Richard shared a love story with his beloved wife, Diana, who predeceased him. It was love at first sight when he first spotted her in a coffee shop in Cambridge. Together they built a strong, loving family, raising their family in Tewksbury, MA where they purchased their dream home and created a lifetime of memories.
Richard took enormous pride in his home, especially his lawn, which he meticulously cared for and guarded fiercely. Family & friends were often warned, “get off the lawn”. It became one of his most beloved and humorous trademarks.
Family vacations down the Cape were a tradition. Richard loved spending summers at Swift’s beach in Wareham, where his very large family would happily squeeze into a one-bedroom cottage. He cherished time spent clamming, crabbing, and fishing.
Richard dedicated his professional life to the City of Cambridge, where he earned great respect, particularly for his role as the city’s well-known “Snow Czar”.
He was a passionate New England sports fan, especially when it came to the Boston Bruins who he loved watching or talking about with his sons Little Richie & Derek, with whom he named after Derek Sanderson. He was also a devoted Elvis Presley fan and proudly named his daughter, Lisa Marie, after Elvis’s daughter.
If you stopped by to visit, you would often find Richard standing at the top of the front steps with a Winston 100 hanging out of his mouth, greeting you with his signature line, “What are you doing here?” delivered with a grin that made it clear he was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
Richard was a proud and devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren: Matthew, Kaiden, Jonathan, Myah, Jordan, Camden, Emmie, Charlie, and Mikey. He lovingly referred to his grandsons as “Papa’s boys” and his granddaughters as “Papa’s princesses”.
Richard was predeceased by his loving wife Diana, and his son, Richard Medeiros, Jr.
He is survived by his children, Shannon Medeiros-Morrissey, Derek Medeiros, Lisa Medeiros, Cheryl Medeiros, Ashley Cabral, and Trisha Medeiros, along with his cherished grandchildren, extended family and many lifelong friends.
While his family will deeply miss his humor, strength and unmistakable personality, they take comfort in knowing he is now at peace after years of pain and illness, reunited with those he loved.
