Obituary

Angela Mattos (Petroni) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, after a brief illness. She was 86 years old.

Angela left this world with arms wide open to greet her husband Robert E. Mattos with whom she shared 54 wonderful years. She is also greeted by her late parents Guido and Rose (Froio) Petroni, and her late brother Phillip (Sonny) Petroni. Angela was the devoted and loving mother to Robert A. Mattos and his partner, Linda Verhault, of Medford, and Kathy Mattos Franklin of Chelsea. She was the adored “Nanny” of Sarah Brazell and her husband Ryan, of Lynn, and Delano and Maceo Franklin of Chelsea. Angela was the loving sister to James Petroni and his late wife JoAnn of Winchester. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

A devout Catholic, born in Boston, she spent her earliest years growing up in the West End and the North End of Boston. She moved to Medford in 1949 and lived there in the same house for the next 76 years. She graduated from Medford High in 1957. Prior to her retirement, Angela worked for many years at Liberty Market in Medford Square and then later crossed High Street to work for over 20 years at Medford Co-op Bank (later BrooklineBank). She treasured her time with her close friends, Carol Ferullo, Georgian Moulton, and Diane Nicoletti.

Angela loved to cook for her family and friends. She taught many a young bride her skills in the kitchen. She was an avid reader of murder mysteries. And she loved TV crime dramas. She enjoyed many trips to Florida. She spent countless enjoyable weekends in New Hampshire with her husband and her late in-laws, Barbara and Ronnie Mattos. She enjoyed playing dominoes, cribbage, and cards. And in true Boston fashion she loved her Dunkin’s.
