Obituary

Mary Ann (Cerone) Mahoney, of Medford, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, after a brief illness at the age of 87. Mary Ann was born in East Cambridge, Massachusetts to the beloved Anthony and Mary (Malloy) Cerone. She resided most of her life in Medford, and was the beloved wife of the late Paul F. Mahoney. Mary Ann was the cherished sister of John "Jackie" Cerone and his wife Johanna of Kennebunkport, ME, Patricia Nyhan and her late husband Don Nyhan of Delray Beach, FL, the late Francis Cerone and his surviving wife Lynne of Kentucky, the late Carol Gleason, and her late husband Robert Gleason formerly of Delray Beach, FL. Mary Ann leaves many devoted and loving nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was a long-time employee of the Cambridge court system. After retiring from her employment in Cambridge, she soon was hired as a lunch lady at Medford High School where she was employed for almost 40 more years until retiring again in her early 80s. Mary Ann was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Medford and an avid fan of all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. Known for wearing team-themed merchandise on game days, Mary Ann enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was at her happiest when surrounded by her family and an occasional glass of White Zinfandel. She was always upbeat and pleasant, had encouraging words for anyone she met, and was extremely witty. Regardless of whether she had known someone forever or just recently met, she would call them either Hector or Harriet and referred to any object as a "doohickey". Mary Ann will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her. May she rest in peace.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday, February 9th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning, February 10th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
