Obituary

Arnold F. "Arnie" Sammis, III, 61, of Bedford, NH died on September 8, 2006, at the Elliott Hospital in Manchester, NH. Mr. Sammis was born in Huntington, NY on December 3, 1944, a son of Helen (Mulready) and the late Arnold Sammis, Jr. Mr. Sammis was a graduate of the Millbrook School in Millbrook, NY, received his bachelor's degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, and his M.B.A. in business administration from Boston University. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, from 1967 to 1971, on the USS Robert L. Wilson DD-847. Mr. Sammis was a pioneer in the field of educational finance. During his nearly 40-year career, he served as Executive Vice President of Knight College Resource Group, President of Knight Tuition Payment Plans, and Senior Vice President for Key Bank USA N.A. For the past 10 years, he served as Vice President of IT client services for American Student Assistance in Boston, MA.
In addition to his mother of Medford, NJ; Mr. Sammis is survived by his wife, Wendy (Colmes) Sammis of Bedford; a brother, Richard Sammis of Pottstown, PA; two daughters, Tracey Machnik of Yarmouthport, MA and Caitlin Sackman of Philadelphia, PA; two grandsons; and two golden retrievers.
Private services will be held lakeside at his home in Freedom, NH on Thursday, September 14th. Friends may call on Friday, September 15th, from 11 AM to 4 PM at the Sammis residence in Bedford. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ossipee Lake Alliance, PO Box 173, Freedom, NH 03836 or Colgate University, The John Painter Memorial Scholarship Fund, Office of Development, 13 Oak Drive, Hamilton, NY, 03346.
