CENTER BARNSTEAD ---- Timothy Van Smith, 67, of Barnstead, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026.
He was born on February 14, 1958, to Gilbert and Emily Smith, who predeceased him.
Tim was a master carpenter whose skill, creativity, and eye for detail were evident in everything he built. An inventor at heart, he was always working with his hands, solving problems, and creating something new. His dedication to service extended beyond his craft—Tim proudly served the Barnstead community as a firefighter and EMT, always ready to help when others were in need.
He is survived by his daughters, Kayley Bass and her children Austin and Madison, of Goffstown, NH, and Mariya Smith of Center Barnstead. He is also survived by his siblings: Robin O’Malley of Center Barnstead, NH; Kathy (Max) Mahanes of Center Barnstead, NH; Cindy (Jim) Legendre of Manchester, NH; Russell (Lori) Smith of Torbay, Newfoundland; Kelly (Daniel) Smith of Searcy, Arkansas; Bill (Colleen) Smith of Center Barnstead, NH; and Priscilla (James) Adams of Alton, NH, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Tim will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his generosity, his quiet strength, and his deep commitment to family and community.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tim’s memory may be made to the Barnstead Fire Department, 305 Parade Road, Barnstead, NH 03218.
