Helen J. (Kennealy) Brennan, age 89, of Medford passed away on Friday, January 30th. Born and raised in South Boston, she was the daughter of the late Edwin A. and Jenny A. (Devlin) Kennealy. Helen moved to Medford in the mid-1960’s and was employed as a Secretary/Clerk at Mystic Auto Parts.
Helen had a true passion for talking with - and listening to - her family, friends and neighbors. She had a remarkable way of putting a smile on your face and making you feel genuinely special. Early on, she devoted herself to volunteering at Saint Joseph school, where she served as a lunch mother and CCD teacher. Known affectionately as “Mrs. B,” she ruled with an iron fist, but was deeply loved and respected by all the children she taught.
Helen loved her daily walks, stopping to pet every dog she met and chatting with their owners along the way. Barry Park was her neighborhood, and she knew every child there. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her grandchildren, and watching them grow up.
Helen was immensely proud of the extraordinary, 160 years of combined service given by her husband, four sons, and two grandchildren to the Medford Fire Department. It brought her great joy knowing they serve together, united by dedication, family and community.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Brennan, and the devoted mother of James P. Brennan and his partner Kerri, Edwin J. Brennan and his wife Laurie, Thomas J. Brennan, and the late Timothy Brennan. She was the loving grandmother of Liam, Emma, Zac, Sydney, Robert and Jeffrey, and the dear sister of the late Edwin Kennealy and his wife Jean, and the late Jane McDaid and her husband William.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 7th, in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, from 9 to 11 AM, concluding with a funeral service at 11 AM in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private.
