
Irene T. Yachimski, of South Boston, MA passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at the age of 78.
Irene was born on May 17, 1947 to Jozef and Katarzyna Segiet in Emsdetten, Germany. In January 1952, Irene with her parents and brother Edward, immigrated to the United States and settled in South Boston, MA where siblings Adele and Zbigneiw were born. In 1968, she proudly became a U.S. citizen.
After graduating from Cardinal Cushing High School, Irene began a career as an administrative assistant at the John Hancock Company. In 1970, Irene married Francis Yachimski. Together they had 2 sons, Michael and Paul, and eventually settled in North Reading, MA to raise the family.
Irene resumed her career in the late 1980s holding various office administrator roles. Before retiring in 2013, she served as an executive assistant at the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corp, in Boston, for over 20 years. She truly loved her role as the firm’s “Ambassador of First Impressions” and was thrilled to have met several local dignitaries like Bobby Orr, Carl Yastremski and multiple members of the Kennedy family.
Irene was a loyal Boston sports fan. She loved her Boston Red Sox, and very rarely missed a game. But, her true love was her grandchildren, Kate and Will. They were the apple of her eye and she enjoyed every second she was able to spend with them. Whether it was a trip up to Maine, down to New Jersey or a visit to the New England Aquarium, Irene soaked up every second she could with her two favorite people.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Jozef and Katarzyna Segiet, her sister Adele Reddington (Segiet) and spouse Francis Yachimski. She is survived by her brothers, Edward Segiet and Zbigniew Segiet, her sons Michael Yachimski and Paul Yachimski, her grandchildren, Kate Yachimski and Will Yachimski and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, February 6th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester St., Boston, MA 02127. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 7th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Parish, 655 Dorchester Ave, Boston, MA 02127 followed by a burial service at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 920 Adams St., Dorchester Center, MA 02124.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an Alzheimer's charity of your choice.
