
Dolores J. Carroll of Andover, MA, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on January 29, 2026. Dolores J. Calla was born in Johnsonburg, PA on the 29th of July 1927, the eighth of thirteen children of John and Teresa Calla, immigrants from Sierra San Bruno, Italy. She graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Erie, PA and became a registered nurse in 1950 and received her commission as a Navy Nurse. She served as a U.S. Navy Nurse during the Korean War. In 1953, Dolores married her husband Jack Carroll, a naval aviator. Following the birth of her first son in 1954, she retired from active duty. She moved her family to San Diego, CA, Madrid Spain, Norfolk, VA, Newport, RI, Buenos Aires Argentina, Washington D.C., and a variety of aircraft carrier home ports, settling in Andover, MA in 1971. She then became a volunteer Red Cross Nurse, serving at bloodmobiles, disaster relief shelters and health fairs for the next twenty years.
Dolores was married to her husband Jack Carroll, Jr. for 72 years before his passing on June 5, 2025. She was an excellent cook and most thoughtful and gracious hostess. She enjoyed frequent large family gatherings both at home and at the family’s hunting lodge in northwest PA. She ardently followed the athletic and academic careers of her six grandchildren. She will be sorely missed and long remembered for the happiness she brought to her family and the local community. Dolores is survived by her three sons--John, of Londonderry, NH, Kevin and wife Catherine of North Andover, MA, and Matthew and wife Darlene of Kingston, NH, six grandchildren-- Patrick and wife Emily of Amesbury, MA, Michael and wife Katherine of Peachtree Corners, GA, Sarah and husband Chris Olsen of Pembroke, NH, Rebekah of Atkinson, NH, Erin of East Meadow, NY, and Shannon of Wilmington, DE— and four great-grandchildren, Lucy and Allison, daughters of Patrick and Emily, and Avery and Owen, children of Michael and Katherine.
Dolores' Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 4 to 8 PM.
