Imre F. Hir, 86, of Derry, NH, died Sunday, January 25, 2026 in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born on November 26, 1939 in Pilisszentiván, Hungary, a son of Imre Hir and Anna (Hamvas) Hir. He enjoyed flying gliders as a young man. He emigrated to the United States in 1956 and served in the U.S. Army from 1959 – 1961 when he was honorably discharged. While living in Georgia, he obtained his pilots license and flew single engine planes. He managed the Atlanta Country Club for over 40 years and after his retirement, he moved to Derry.
He was a beloved uncle and friend to many. He selflessly offered his guidance and wisdom to family. He is survived by his brother József G. Hir, of Hungary; several nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece and nephew. Imre is predeceased by his son, James A. Hir.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial will be held in the spring in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, East Derry. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
