Obituary

UNION, ME — Wayne Alan Ahlquist, 75, of Mt. Pleasant Road, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Laconia Rehabilitation Center – Genesis.

Wayne was born on April 23, 1950, in Saugus, Massachusetts, the son of the late Richard Ahlquist and Ida (Trodella) Ahlquist.

Wayne was a man of many projects, including working on his sawmill and tinkering with his various trucks, cars and motorcycle. He had a meticulous eye for detail in every undertaking, especially in his backyard workspace known as “The Pit,” and he carried that same sense of precision into his everyday life. While laboring in his large garage (affectionately called the Millennium Falcon) may have looked like work to some, it was truly Wayne’s sanctuary, a place where he could focus, create, and do things his own way. Wayne appreciated quiet, solitary pursuits but also cherished time spent with his family and close friends. Animals brought out a softer side of him that was not always visible. Cats and woodland creatures seemed naturally drawn to Wayne, providing companionship and entertainment. Wayne proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran, a testament to his strength, dedication, and sense of duty. He was funny, protective, intelligent, and proud, a man who lived life on his own terms, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (DeRosa) Ahlquist; his son, Wayne Alquist Jr., and his wife, Colleen; his daughter, Michelle Ahlquist, and her husband, Richy Pasuy; his son, Jason Ahlquist, and his wife, Dara; and his daughter, Danielle Barreira, and her husband, Nate. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Anthony Donahue, Maxwell Donahue, Alannah Ahlquist, Kaylee Pasuy, Mia Pasuy, Madison Ahlquist, Remington Barreira and Nathaniel Barreira Jr.; his nieces, Heidi Leva and Lisa Aylward; and his nephew, Ronnie Ahlquist Jr. In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his brothers, Richard Ahlquist and Ronald Ahlquist.

There will be no calling hours.

For those who wish, memorial donations in Wayne’s name may be made to Pope Memorial Humane Society, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
