Louis “Lou” Ferreira Jr., 74, a Nantucket native and lifelong resident, passed away on January 21, 2026 at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston, with his daughters by his side.
Louis was born on September 3, 1951, to Eleanor (Marks) Ferreira and Louis Ferreira Sr. He was deeply proud to call Nantucket his home; it wasn’t just where he lived, but a place that shaped who he was. Louis’ passion for sports began at a young age, with his devoted love for the New York Knicks, Yankees and Giants. During his early adult years, he was widely recognized as a respected coach and highly regarded referee and umpire for Nantucket High School sports and adult league sports.
Louis was a dedicated employee and Produce Manager at the A&P, a lifelong career through which he became a familiar and friendly face to countless island residents. He was known for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, straightforward nature, and for the pride he held for his two daughters, Amy (Ferreira) Manfredi, and Katie Lou (Ferreira) Williams.
Louis is survived by his brothers, Tom Ferreira and his partner Heidi LeVangie of Abington, MA; and Christopher “Willis” Ferreira and his wife Jennifer Ferreira of Nantucket; his daughters Amy (Ferreira) Manfredi of Marstons Mills, MA; Katie (Ferreira) Williams and her husband Rudy Williams of Weymouth, MA; his four grandchildren, Anthony and William Manfredi, and Adrian and Christian Williams; his nephews, Michael Ferreira of Pembroke MA; Jordan Ferreira and his wife, Kelsey Ferreira of Hollis, ME; William Ferreira of Boston, MA; and his niece, Reagan Ferreira-Slosek of New Boston, NH; and his aunt Joanne (Marks) Rentner and her husband Richard Rentner of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by a wide circle of cousins with whom he shares deep family roots.
Louis is predeceased by his mother, Eleanor (Marks) Ferreira and his father, Louis Ferreira Sr.
Our family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Our Island Home for their care, support and compassion during the last 6 years of Louis’ life.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 14th at St. Mary, Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church in Nantucket with a burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louis’ memory to the Harvey Foundation, 5 Meadowview Dr. Nantucket, MA. 02554.
