Obituary

BIDDEFORD- Andre “Andy” Ouellette, 75, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP).

Andy was born on February 22, 1950, in Lewiston, Maine, the son of the late Paul E. Ouellette and Therese R. (Drouin) Ouellette. He was a proud graduate of Lewiston High School and went on to participate in the Upward Bound program before attending the University of Southern Maine in Portland/Gorham, where he majored in English and minored in history.

Andy began his career with Biddeford Parks and Recreation and later dedicated over 30 years of service to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. A lifelong reader and creative writer, Andy had a deep love for learning and storytelling. He found great peace in gardening and spending time outdoors, appreciating the quiet beauty of nature and the simple satisfaction of tending to the earth. He was also a devoted animal advocate and had a special affection for dogs, often joking that he loved them more than people.

Andy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy (Laverriere) Ouellette; his children, Tyson Ouellette of Waterboro and Melissa Poppy of Arundel; his brothers, Paul E. Ouellette Jr. and wife Laura, and Daniel J. Ouellette and wife Rachelle; his sisters, Mariette M. (Cyr) (Bulgar) Ouellette and Valerie V. Ouellette; and his cherished grandchildren, Dexter and Mia.

Andy will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and an extraordinary man whose calm presence brought comfort to those around him. He had a rare ability to slow down, find joy in simple moments, and appreciate the beauty of life as it unfolded. His quiet strength, kindness, and steady love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support. Per Andy’s request, there will be no formal service. Instead, take time to live life fully and pay love forward to those around you, whether they come into your life for a moment or a lifetime.
