Johnny A. Kimbrough, 77, of Oxnard, California, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 28, 1948, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Johnny and Gladys Kimbrough.
Johnny is survived by his devoted wife, Hilda Kimbrough; his sons John Kimbrough Jr., Steven Kimbrough Sr., Shane Kimbrough Sr. and daughter in-law Sonia Kimbrough; as well as grandchildren, Steven Kimbrough Jr., Shane Kimbrough Jr., Shayna Kimbrough, Sarah Kimbrough, Elena Kimbrough, Jordan Kimbrough, Jeremy Kimbrough and Sydney Kimbrough; Among the several great-grandchildren Steven Kimbrough III, Ramari Major, Aaleeyah Walker, Elijah Kimbrough, Travis Kimbrough, Elliot Kimbrough, Emani Kimbrough and Amara Kimbrough, held a special place in his heart and brought immense joy to his life. He also looked forward with anticipation to the birth of another great-grandchild from his granddaughter Elena, a forthcoming blessing that will carry forward his enduring legacy of love and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Gladys Kimbrough and his in-laws Salvador and Elena Mercado.
Throughout his life, Johnny found his greatest happiness in time spent with family. He especially cherished playing softball in local recreational leagues alongside his sons, brothers-in-law and nephews. He also enjoyed traveling and, in his younger years, exploring the open road on his motorcycle.
Honoring Johnny’s wishes, the family will not hold a formal funeral service. A private memorial will be held, during which his ashes will be scattered in the ocean—a place he loved and chose as his final resting spot.
