
If you knew Mary Barnett, you knew her smile, a smile that made everyone feel welcome and at home. Mary, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family. Born on June 29, 1934, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Anne and Daniel Hurley. Her life’s most important chapter began after high school, when she met and married her husband, Athur Barnett, Jr. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, eventually settling in Derry, New Hampshire, where they raised their family and built a loving home. Although Arthur passed away a few years ago. Mary’s family finds comfort knowing they are reunited once more.
Mary was the heart of her family and the devoted mother of six; Susan White, Daniel Barnett and his wife Keli, Lisa Boyer and her husband Roy, Linda Clifford and her husband Chris, Sean Barnett and his wife Shelly, and Sheila Kelley and her husband Michael. Her love only grew as the family did, she was the cherished grandmother of ten and the proud great grandmother of eight, with two more great-grandchildren on the way. Mary is also survived by her loving sister, Anne Casey. She was predeceased by her parents, her dear husband Arthur and her brother Donald Hurley.
Mary was a familiar and friendly face in her community. She retired from Macy’s after more than 40 years of dedicated service, remembered by her colleagues and customers alike for her kindness and positive spirit. Her Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout her life. As an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, she found joy in serving as a Eucharistic Minister, touching many hearts with her devotion and generosity. Mary’s gentle spirit, compassion, and readiness to help others inspired all who knew her. Whether offering a kind word to a stranger or sharing laughter with friends, she taught those around her that a little sweetness can go a long way.
Family and friends are invited the gather and share memories of Mary on Monday January 26, 2026 from 5 – 8 pm in Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 27, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry, NH. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish or to a charity of one’s choice.
