Obituary

Phyllis M. (Malone) Estabrooks, a resident of Winchester, MA for more than 50 years, passed away peacefully into the Loving Arms of Her beloved & Heavenly Father, on January 15, 2026. She was lovingly surrounded & guided into Eternal Life by her family in a peaceful setting with soft Christian music and a compassionate Hospice Team.

She was the beloved wife of the late LeBaron M. Estabrooks.

Born in Boston, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Richard F. and Victoria A.(Bohdanowitch) Malone. She was raised and educated in Boston, MA and was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School.

Phyllis was self-employed for many years as an Orthopedic Transcriptionist. She was also President of and on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, where she oversaw the Greater Boston Division’s programs of research, professional education and community service for many years.

Phyllis was a dedicated and active parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Winchester, where she volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister. She considered this to be one of the biggest honors of her life: to dutifully and faithfully provide Communion for those attending Mass, those who are homebound, and patients at Winchester Hospital & Nursing Homes. Over the years, she hand-made countless rosaries for Baptisms, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, prison ministries, and missions in Peru and Uganda.

Through these capacities, Phyllis developed a large circle of friends. Her family remembers her network of love and light that connected everyone in her orbit. This has been carried to the next generations of her family and shared in their own ministries.

In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed visiting Maine, particularly the Nubble Light House and somehow always made time to stop for an ice cream at Brown’s in York, ME. She was an avid gardener, well read, and she could be found tuning into Catholic Mass on TV or meeting the challenge of a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle.

Phyllis is lovingly survived by her children: Janice Pero of Burlington, MA, Katherine “Kathy” Keiski (Brian Keiski) of Frederick, MD, James “Jim” Flavin, Jr. (Nancy “Nan” Rogers Flavin) of Concord, MA, Elizabeth “Beth” Estabrooks, with whom she made her home in Winchester, Lakshmana Estabrooks of Jamaica, Pam Estabrooks of Cape Cod, and the late Dee Genetti and the late Deborah Barrett (Kevin).

She was the devoted grandmother of Christopher and Blake Genetti, Lisa Silva, Cynthia McCormick (Jonathan), Thomas Williamson, Jennifer Barrett Kady (Keith), Jeremy Barrett (Sarah), Nicole Pero, Ben Flavin (Amy), Sam Flavin (fiancé Emma) and Hadley Flavin (Caitlin).

She was the beloved great-grandmother of Ezra, Ariela & Joella McCormick, Christiaan & Aariana Silva, Natalia, Christian & Abrianna Genetti, Joshua, Cameron, Elijah & Evelyn Kady, Michaela, Chloe & Emelia Barrett, and other relatives by marriage.

She was the dear sister of the late Richard Malone and Martha Hanafin. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews & others.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for Visiting Hours at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, MA on Wednesday, January 21, from 5-7PM, and again on Thursday, January 22 at 9AM followed by a Funeral Catholic Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Christian burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 95 Worcester St. – Suite 110, Wellesley, MA 02481 or at https://www.heart.org
