Obituary

Eileen Hoegen, 81, of Smith Street, North Providence, died Sunday, January 11, 2026 at the Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. She was the widow of John J. Hoegen, who died in 1985. She is predeceased by her longtime companion, Joseph Sawyer.

Born in New Bedford, MA, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Pina) Valenti. She had lived in North Providence for 10 years previously residing in Florida.

Eileen was a CNA and had worked many years at the former Lakeview Health Center. She enjoyed crocheting, water aerobics and was a member of the Cranston YMCA for many years.

She is survived by her children: Dawn Porter, John Hoegen, Jr. and his wife, Alicia, Her grandchildren: Stephanie Porter, Anthony Hoegen, JJ. Hoegen, Emily Hoegen, Carissa Carey and Joshua Carey, her great grandchildren: Sienna King, Hailee Carey and Natalie Carey and her son-in-law, Tim Carey, her brother, Edward Valenti and his wife, Brenda, as well as many dear family and friends. She was the mother of the late Carrie Carey.

Her visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2026 from 4-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville with a prayer service at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence or The Cranston YMCA.
