Obituary




Worcester – Brian T. Russell, 58, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, January 10,2025 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after a courageous battle with cancer.

Brian was born in Worcester and is survived by his father, Thomas C. Russell of Worcester and his longtime companion, Dori Keyhowski; his nieces and nephews, Amy Kirwan, Sarah Mahoney, Michael Kuszewski, Matthew Kuszewski and Thomas Kuszewski and his great niece and great nephew, Cooper and Delaney Kirwan.

Mr. Russell is predeceased by his mother, Carol M. (Delaney) Russell and his two sisters, Eileen M. Mahoney and Diane C. Russell.

Brian graduated from the former Saint Peter Marian Central Catholic High School in 1985. He worked throughout his career in the construction industry as a carpenter, starting with the Carpenter’s Union Local 107 in Worcester and later working as a self-employed carpenter for many years.

Brian was a sports fan and especially enjoyed watching and following the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. In his youth Brian was an outstanding hockey player. Family was a priority in his life, he always looked forward to the trips to Hampton, family cookouts and camping. Brian never missed an opportunity to show off his “Karaoke Skills” and his friends and family were blessed to be able to listen.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers of the 7th floor ICU at the UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus for their heartfelt care, love and compassion for Brian and his family during a difficult time.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 15 from 10 am to 12 Noon in the Dirsa – Morin Memorial Chapel 298 Grafton Street Worcester. A funeral service will be held at 12 PM in the Dirsa – Morin Memorial Chapel. Private burial will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions in memory of Brian may be made to the American Cancer Society 3 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701.
