
Thomas W. Hopkins, III, a resident of Tewksbury for 50 years, formerly of Winchester, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
He was the beloved husband of Carolyn M. (Penta) Hopkins, with whom he would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 5, 2026
Born in Medford on October 18, 1950, he was the son of the late Thomas W. Hopkins, Jr. and the late Evelyn T. (Whalen) Hopkins.
Thom was raised in Boston and Winchester. He attended local schools and graduated from Winchester High School in 1968. Following high school, he attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
Thom worked as a design engineer for Parsons Brinckerhoff in Boston until his retirement in 2010.
While living in Tewksbury, Tom was a member of the Tewksbury Interfaith Choir and served as a board member for Boy Scout Troop 49.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and freshwater fishing at his cabin.
Besides his wife Carolyn, he is survived by three children, Scott T. Hopkins, of Concord, Dawn A. Hopkins, of Lowell and Ryan P. Hopkins and his wife Julie, of Harvard: three grandchildren, Jude and Elliot Hopkins, and Claire Hopkins. Thom is the brother of Michael K. Hopkins and his wife Anne, of Woburn, Catherine M. Webber and her husband Robert, of Rowley, Deborah A. Hopkins, of Sylva, NC, and Teresa M. Beauchesne and her husband Dennis, of Methuen. He leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Calling hours are Thursday, January 15, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Friday, January 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
