
Gerald Joseph Lloyd, born in Lebanon, Ohio on September 6, 1938, was preceded in death by father Joseph and mother Nina. Gerald, a graduate of Lebanon High School, was a graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, where he received both the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. He studied piano performance with Olga Conus and composition with Scott Huston. Lloyd, also a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, completed doctoral studies in composition with Bernard Rogers.
In addition to serving on the music faculties of Western Michigan University, Drake University, Capital University, Ohio University, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell, had extensive experience in music and fine arts administration in higher education, serving as Assistant Dean of Fine Arts, Drake University, Dean, Conservatory of Music, Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, Director of the School of Music, Ohio University, and Dean, College of Fine Arts, University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He also worked extensively in higher education accreditation organizations, including the National Association of Schools of Music, where he was elected by the membership to serve on various commissions, as well as, a visiting evaluator.
Dr. Lloyd and his wife Jeannie were world travelers and enjoyed touring and exploring world cultures, especially in London, Vienna, and Salzburg. They also were regular attendees at the Boston Symphony, Boston Celebrity Series, and the Santa Fe Opera. They were ardent collectors of the paintings of Phyllis Kapp and members of the MFA in Boston, and the PEM in Salem, Mass.
