
Rudine Lawson Cromer, 84, of Tifton passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Maple Court Assisted Living in Tifton. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Cromer at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Clark Harden will officiate with a eulogy to be given by Ronnie Lawson.
Mrs. Cromer’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 26, 1941, in Berrien County, Mrs. Cromer was the daughter of the late Walter Jack Lawson and Bessie Mae McCorvey Lawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Vaughn” Cromer, who she was happily married to for 53 years and during that time they were inseparable. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Wendell Pitts and an infant sister. Mrs. Cromer was a faithful servant of God, and she and her late husband were founding members of Brighton Road Baptist Church
Before retiring, she was the supervisor of the Business Office at Tift Regional Medical Center, and it was told that she “could find a nickel in a haystack”. She was so valuable in that position that after eight or nine months, the CEO of the hospital called her and asked if she would please come back to work and she graciously agreed and worked until she was 77.
Mrs. Cromer is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Phyllis Pitts of Tifton and Lynda and Paul Tompkins of Moultrie; one brother, Ronnie Lawson of Brookfield; two sisters, Wylene Drexler and Kathy Roberts, both of Tifton; four grandsons and their spouses, Derek and Brooke Pitts, Kurt and Molly Pitts, Jared and Ashlie Tompkins and Jacob and Elyssa Tompkins; and five great-grandchildren, Caroline Pitts, Layton Pitts, Laina Pitts, Kaia Pitts and Jocelyn Tompkins.
