Richard Curtis, age 57, of Dover, and Spring Hill FL., formerly of Sharon, passed away peacefully on January 3rd after a courageous three-year battle with glioblastoma. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was an avid golfer and lifelong sports enthusiast who found joy in nearly every game, whether watching or participating. His appreciation for sports reflected his belief in teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie—values that carried seamlessly into his professional life. Rick built a meaningful career as a banquet director, working with such properties as the Omni Nashville, the Sheraton Destin and the Swan and Dolphin resort in Orlando. A natural leader, he touched countless lives through his guidance, passion and genuine care for others. He was known for his generosity as a mentor, and Rick left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Beyond work, Rick cherished his family and his friendships. Rick was a devoted uncle to his nephews and nieces, who adored him. Rick’s friends meant the world to him; many of his closest friendships began in childhood and lasted for decades. He was a welcoming host in the home he loved in Florida, greeting everyone with a warm smile and an engaging story. Rick’s wit and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rick was predeceased by his loving parents, Richard (“Dick”) and Elaine Curtis, and is survived by his sister, Lori Curtis Krusell, and her husband, Eric, of Dover, Massachusetts and their children, Paul, Carina, and Ian; and his sister, Lisa Wilson, and her husband, Steve, of Joondalup, Australia, and their children, Sean and Caroline. He is also survived by his uncle, Lyman Doane, Jr., a golf professional like Rick’s father, who shared his lifelong love of golf.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the George Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, at 1305 Highland Ave., Needham, MA 02492. A brief service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
