
Joan P. (Sheehan) Hansford, age 93, a resident of Tewksbury for over 60 years, formerly of Medford, passed away at D’Youville Senior Care with her family by her side on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
She was the beloved wife of 55 years to George L. Hansford, who passed away April 23, 2008.
Born in Medford on April 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late David J. Sheehan and the late Ann Marion (Doyle) Sheehan.
Joan was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.
In 1960, she and her late husband moved to Tewksbury, where they raised their two sons.
Prior to retiring, Joan worked for many years at MA/COM Corporation in Burlington.
She was an active member of the Tewksbury community and served as a poll worker for Tewksbury’s annual elections. In addition, she was a member and volunteer at the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Walk-In-Center and a member of the local Red Hat Society.
In her spare time, Joan enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and vacationing with her late husband at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
She is survived by her two sons, George L. Hansford, of New Boston, NH and Michael J. Hansford and his wife Denise (Petros), of Pepperell. Joan was the grandmother of Jeremy Hansford and his wife Erin (Mooney), of Tewksbury, Meghan Rosso and her husband Chad, of Tewksbury, Karen Cross, of Hartland, ME, Linda Stalzer, of Manchester, NH and the late Brad G. Hansford. She leaves 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Joan was the sister of the late David J. Sheehan, Jr.
All are invited to attend her graveside service on Friday, January 9th to be held at 11 a.m. at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury. The Hansford lot is located on William Pringle Avenue in the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Friends of the Elderly and mailed to the Tewksbury Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
