Words by John… The Last Place I Called Home

When I came to you and let the old van go, I knew my road was gently ending – and for the first time in a long while, I felt safe. You gave me rest, and a love that never had to be asked for.

We laughed through the holidays, shared plates of good food and memories, and sat by the fire with coffee and warm pie – the kind of moments that make life tender.

We took long rides down memory lane, back to places I hadn’t seen in years, and somehow the past felt close again, like it had just been waiting for us.

When autumn wrapped the world in gold and crimson, I took long walks in the woods with Emmy and Gabby at my side, leaves whispering under our feet. The cider donuts came home warm – a dozen gone in a day (my sweet tooth never changed).

There were quiet porch afternoons, and a house filled with gentle care.

What I found here was more than help – it was dignity, comfort, and a home that held me with kindness.

Today I go to be with our Lord, and I go in peace. Thank you for carrying me these last miles, and for loving me so well.

Until we meet again – I love you.
