
Thomas A. Callaghan, age 85, of Wareham, formerly of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Jeannette M. (Hunnewell) Callaghan and father to Doreen A. Callaghan. Born in Acushnet, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Mary D. (Morrill) Callaghan.
Tom was raised in Brockton and attended St. Patrick’s where he served as an altar boy. He graduated from Archbishop Williams High School where he played football and earned a scholarship to play football for Northeastern University.
Tom worked as a technician with Texas Instruments before being recruited to work for Handy & Harman as general manager in chemical engineering where he retired after 30 years.
He was an accomplished sailor, spending time traveling throughout Cape Cod and the Islands. In addition to sailing, he was an avid golfer, especially at Little Harbor Country Club in Wareham where he was recognized as the Seniors Flight Champion for several years and was known for the “Legend of the Rock”.
Mr. Callaghan enjoyed vacationing annually with his wife and daughter travelling to many destinations near and far. Upon retirement, he enjoyed camping throughout the United States with his wife exploring the National Parks, monuments and scenic routes before settling as seasonal resident’s “snowbirds” of North Fort Myers, FL. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Wareham for over 25 years.
In addition to the love of his life, Jeannette and daughter, Doreen, he is survived by a brother John Callaghan; a sister Dorothy Damon and her husband Fred; his in law’s Bernard F. Hunnewell and wife Carol, Roger L. Hunnewell and Laurie, Ralph B. Hunnewell and his wife Cindy, and Cynthia A. D’Ottavio and her husband Joseph; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the brother of the late Mary Maureen DiCarlo, James Callaghan, and Margaret “Peggy” Eisnor.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton. The funeral procession will gather at funeral home on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 9:15 am, for a funeral mass at 10:30 am, in Christ the King Church, 54 Lyman Street, Brockton. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in East Bridgewater.
