Mrs. Owens was born August 15, 1947, in Tifton, Georgia, to the late Robert Lee and Polly Dowdy Busbin. Mrs. Owens worked a number of years alongside her husband moving mobile homes, where she was a pilot car driver. She enjoyed fishing, shooting critters off the porch, and gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, especially desserts, and putting up her vegetables and canning. She didn’t travel much but when she did her favorite place was to go gambling in Biloxi, and often times Pine Mountain. She would often be found watching NASCAR, cheering on her favorite driver Joey Logano. Her greatest joy were her grandkids; she loved being a part of their experiences and adventures. Her nephews knew her as a gamer and have fond memories of playing Mario Kart. Everyone will remember Mrs. Owens as “The Boss” she would always be sure to mention it.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Owens; children: Stephanie Newbern & Scott, Herman Owens, Jr. & Donna and Sherry AhSam & Paul; grandchildren: Tripp McKee & Sarah, Carter McKee, Will Owens, Trey Owens, Greg AhSam & Megan, PJ AhSam & Tiffani, Kyra AhSam, Krissy Arline, Kolt Newbern, Tessa Crosby and Kennedy Weyenberg & Chandler; 10 great grandchildren; her siblings: Bill Busbin & Faye, and Peggy Burk; several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law also survive. She is also survived by her favorite person, Alfredia, who would fry fat back with her up until her last day. Mrs. Owens thought no one could out cook her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Steve Carter, who she loved and missed dearly.
Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, is in charge of arrangements.
