Worcester – Steven M. Nevalsky, 68, of Worcester, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 23, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.
He is survived by his mother, M. Connie Nevalsky of Worcester; his siblings, Edward J. Nevalsky and his wife Angela of Spencer, Cindy A. Perro and her husband John of Millbury, Mark F. Nevalsky of Worcester, Richard A. Nevalsky and his partner Joseph of Worcester, Brian D. Nevalsky and his wife Kelly of Sutton, and Michael D. Nevalsky and his partner Kristen of Worcester; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Nevalsky, and his sister, Sharon M. Cullinane.
Steven was born and raised in Worcester and was the oldest of eight children. He grew up in a lively household on Dupuis Avenue, where he and his siblings were constantly active, spending their days playing in the neighborhood and in the backyard. He was a graduate of the former Worcester Boys Trade High School, where he studied electrical work. A lifelong Worcester native, Steven remained deeply connected to his family, his community, and the traditions he loved.
Earlier in his career, Steven worked as a truck driver for Teamsters Local 170 and as a machine repairman for PTS Bottle and Labeling Company. He later became the owner of the former Squire Whites Restaurant and Pub on Greenwood Street, where he earned a reputation as the “king of the triple lobster special.” Squire Whites became a true family establishment over the years, employing many siblings, nieces, and nephews and serving as a place where family bonds were strengthened.
Steven later went on to become the owner and operator of the Wheelock Inn in Millbury. During his ownership, he was a generous and familiar presence in the Millbury community, always willing to lend a helping hand. There were countless occasions when he volunteered the restaurant to support local organizations and town events, giving back quietly and wholeheartedly.
Steven was an avid New England sports fan, especially devoted to the Patriots, whom he loved watching every Sunday during football season. He also had a deep love for baseball. He played for Worcester Boys Trade Baseball as a talented infielder and even tried out for the Boston Red Sox on Lake Avenue in the late 1970s—an experience he was proud of and fondly remembered.
A true outdoorsman, Steven was a member of the Vernon Hill American Legion Post and the White Tails Club. He especially cherished hunting trips to Moosehead, Maine, and later Penn Yan, New York, shared with his brothers, nephews, and his father. Known for his brave stomach, Steven would eat everything he hunted, with venison being his favorite. Fishing was another treasured tradition. He once owned a fishing boat and made it a point to go striped bass fishing every Father’s Day with all six brothers and their father, Ed.
Steven created countless memorable moments over the years by hosting pig roasts and clambakes at large family gatherings. A humble, hardworking, and loyal family member, he was always willing to support those in need. His generosity often took the form of providing food for the special occasions of his parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Wheelock Inn, as well as the Ambulatory Care Center and the UMass Memorial Cancer Center at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus, for the compassion, care, and support they provided to Steven and his family.
