Patenaude, of Plymouth, September 1st, Jean W. (Whiting) 88. Beloved wife of Hector E. Patenaude. Mother of Jeanne Patenaude Lane and husband David of New York City and Plymouth, the late Anne W. Patenaude- Vaughn who died in 2000 and son in law terry Vaughn of Princeton, NJ. Grandmother of Jennifer Whiting Lane of NY, Elizabeth Anne Vaughn and Alexander Andre’ Vaughn of NJ. She also leaves a niece, Bonnie Stacy and husband Ned and two nephews, George Clark and Kenneth “Buzzy” Clark. Sister of the late Margaret Stacy. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 8th from 5-8 PM at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., N. Plymouth. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 10:30 am at the Church of the Pilgrimage, Town Square, Plymouth. Burial will be at the Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth. Donation in her memory may be made to the Church of The Pilgrimage or the Cancer Center of Jordan Hospital of charity of ones choice.

Jean (Whiting) Patenaude, 88, life long resident of Plymouth and a Pilgrim descendant, died in Plymouth on September 1, 2006.

She retired from the Plymouth-Carver School system in 1983 after 42 years of service in education. She taught English, history and Latin and served as a Guidance Counselor in the Plymouth Junior High School from 1940-1960 when she moved into the adjoining Plymouth High School as Guidance Counselor. Mrs. Patenaude joined the Plymouth-Carver staff when the “new” high school opened on Obery Street in 1963 and served there as a guidance counselor, Director of Guidance and Guidance Coordinator until her retirement in 1983.

Born in Plymouth on February 19, 1918, daughter of Edwin H. and Jeannie (Deans) Whiting, she was educated in Plymouth schools, graduating from Plymouth High School, Class of 1936 and received a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State College in 1940 and a master’s degree in 1960.

She is survived by her husband, Hector E. Patenaude of Plymouth, who was a teacher in Plymouth for 33 years, now retired, her daughters, Jeanne W. Patenaude-Lane of NY City and the late Anne W. Patenaude-Vaughn who died in 2000. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer Whiting Lane of NY, Elizabeth Anne Vaughn and Alexander Andre Vaughn and two sons-in-law, David Lane and Terry Vaughn and a beloved niece, Bonnie Stacy and her husband Dr. Ned Margie as well as a number of nephews, nieces and cousins. She was also sister of the late Margaret (Whiting) Stacy who died in 2001.

As well as her service to the children of Plymouth, Mrs. Patenaude was an active member of the Church of the Pilgrimage, Plymouth, serving as a deaconess, trustee and on many committees, including Christian Education, Memorial Fund and Membership and Evangelism.

During World War II, Mrs. Patenaude traveled with her husband returning to Plymouth while he served overseas in Italy. They have traveled extensively since retirement returning to Italy and touring through Europe and Britain several times as well as Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean and throughout the United States.

Mrs. Patenaude’s hobbies and club works have been extensive and varied: Plymouth Garden Club, Black and White Club, Jordan Hospital Club, Boot Pond Association, Delta Kappa Gamma International as Honor Society for Educators, Antiquarian Society, Plymouth Philharmonic Board and Pilgrim Society. She enjoyed gardening and flower arranging, sewing, knitting for her family and making oriental rugs. She was the recipient of several educational awards and was elected a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International. She worked on her 70th class reunion committee until just before her death
