Obituary

Robert G. Aucoin, known as “Bobby,” age 83, passed suddenly on December 20, 2025, at the Massachusetts Veterans Home in Holyoke. He was born on May 3, 1942, in Chicopee, son of the late Andre and Gertrude (Grenier) Aucoin.
After high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as an air traffic controller. He later worked for the phone company as a lineman for 36 years before retiring, and was affectionately known by many as “Captain.” He was a member of VFW Post 452 and the Knights of Columbus Elder Council #69 in Chicopee, and was well known for being the very first resident of the Veterans Home to receive the COVID vaccine.
He was predeceased by his sister Irene Hill. He is survived by his beloved daughter Michelle Aucoin and her friend Billy Young of Agawam; his sister Cecile Farnham of Westfield; his godson and nephew Michael Hill and his wife Lili; his best friend Tommy Loudon of Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
His daughter would like to extend a special thank you to Joan and Colleen, his primary nurses; Carrie, his social worker; Rachel, for the laughs and smiles they shared; Michelle, for being there for him until the end; and Erica, whom he lovingly referred to as his second daughter and who provided compassionate care in attending to his daily needs.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 28 Springfield St., Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 9:30–10:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose de Lima Church at 11:00 AM.
