Nicholas Peter Di Tondo passed away on December 19, 2025.
Born in Lynn, MA on February 16, 1934, he was the youngest child of the late John and Mary (Iacovetti) Di Tondo, and brother of the late Amy, Rene, and John Di Tondo. He was the former spouse of the late Eva C. Cofrin and he is survived by his three daughters, Arleen Zimmerman and her husband, Tom of Louisville, OH; Maria Fachner and her husband, Jack of Mendon, MA; Lyn Kardatzke, her husband Tim of Cambridge, MA, and one grandchild.
Nick’s family’s story is a classic American tale. His parents came to this country from Italy early in the 20th century, his father fighting for the U.S. in WWI, his brothers in WWII. Nick’s neighbors growing up were from all over, and he had many stories to tell. He was proud to contribute to the effort to restore the Statue of Liberty in the 1980s.
Educated in Lynn Public Schools, he was a 1952 graduate of Lynn English High, after which he himself was drafted into the Army and served stateside, learning to be an x-ray technician. After the Army, he returned to Lynn, moving his family to Franklin in 1970.
Beginning in the late 1950’s, he had a long career with Arnold Greene Testing Laboratories, later CONAM, in Cambridge, then Natick, Massachusetts, using his x-ray and quality control skills. Upon retiring in the late 1990’s, Nick began working at Staples in Bellingham, a job he very much enjoyed.
Nick was a longtime member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge 2136 in Franklin and onetime president of the Franklin Rangerettes drill team, of which all three of his daughters were members in their youth.
Nick loved tennis and played weekly for many years on the high school and Dean courts with his best friend, the late Robert Tessier. He held down the corner of Pond and Oak Street Ext. for decades, welcoming visitors up into his porch for company and conversation.
Later moving to senior housing up Veteran’s Memorial Way, he was well known by his neighbors for his love of a good spy novel, cribbage, and drawing. His artworks will be reminders of his attention to detail and eye for beauty.
Nick would be heartened by any memorial donations to the Disabled American Veterans, dav.org.
He will be much missed by all who knew him, family, neighbors, friends old and new. So, raise a glass to Nick and wish him eternal rest in peace.
Nick's family will celebrate his life privately.
The Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. is honored to assist the Di Tondo family.
