Obituary

Normand L Provencher, 90, of Stow Massachusetts, formerly of Needham, Massachusetts, passed away on December 18, 2025. He is survived by his cherished wife Bobbie Lankford and predeceased by his beloved wife Anita M. Provencher. He is predeceased by his brother Donald Provencher of Portland, Maine and parents Lucien and Emilienne (Lessard) Provencher of Lewiston, Maine.

He is survived by his children Michele (Rod) Pfannenstiel of Northborough, Massachusetts, Stephen Provencher of Newton, Massachusetts, Robert (Laurel) Provencher of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, Laura (Dan) Busse of Boulder, Colorado, and Chad (Susan) Lankford of Carmel, Indiana and 11 grandchildren.

Norm was born in Augusta, Maine August 9, 1935 and grew up in Lewiston, Maine enjoying his time singing with his acapella group the Four Notes, emceeing at hockey games at St Dominic High School, going up to family camps for fishing and swimming and eating lobsters, red hot dogs, and baked beans. He completed his accounting degree at Bently College then began a long employment at John Hancock Life Insurance, retiring in 1995.

Norm was an avid traveler, skier, tennis player and hiker, but his greatest passion was his family. Hosting family summer trips on Kezar Lake with up to 20 people in 1 small camp with days filled with swimming, fishing and boating, and nights filled with family dinners and laughter. And a few Manhattans too.

Norm also believed that it was important to give back to your community. He was active in the Needham Exchange Club serving as president and Fourth of July coordinator. He also served on the Needham Parks and Recreation Board as a commissioner and held many positions in the Needham Soccer Club including coach, president, founding member of the first Annual Memorial Day Tournament and first Men’s Soccer Team. He was active at the Needham Pool and Racquet Club for many years. Norm recently served on the Board of Trustees for Stow Meeting House.

Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Sunday, December 28, from 2-5pm followed by a funeral service in the funeral home on Monday, December 29, at 11am. Interment in Needham Cemetery.
