Obituary

James Gerard (Giff) Griffin

Much loved husband, soul mate, partner in crime and best friend to Deborah (Debbie) Connolly Griffin, loving dad and best friend and again partner in crime to his son James Patrick (JP) Griffin. Beloved brother of Kathleen Bretagne, Michael Griffin and his wife Jean, Joyce Darmetko and her husband Michael and dear brother in law to Robert Powers. Predeceased by his parents Anna Mae (Joyce) Griffin James F. (Poppo) Griffin and his sister Patricia Griffin Powers.

Dear brother in law of Martin (Markie) and Jane Connolly, Patrick Connolly, Nancy and Joe Lombardi, Bryan and Susan Connolly, James and Florence Connolly, Paul and Carol Connolly, Lisa and John Loughlin, Kelli-Ann O’Brien and her late husband Richard O’Brien, predeceased by Daniel T. Connolly.

Jimmy loved and had a special relationship and had fun tormenting all his nieces and nephews, but he had an extra special relationship with Rick Bretagne and Karen (Bretagne) Richardson.

Jimmy had many friends, more than he realized. Jimmy is predeceased by his best friends Charles (Chuck) Savage, Frank (Hubba) Hubisak and Paul Foley.

Jimmy loved his time in the army. He had a love for adventures and more importantly Jimmy lived his life his way.

Jimmy worked for Boston Edison for over 35 years and spent most of those years as a Meter Reader. He was a member of local 369. Jimmy is past president of the Boston Edison Employees Club. Jimmy also worked for the MCCA formerly the BCEC for 20 years.

Even though Jimmy was exempt from going into the military, he was so determined to enlist in the army and it took Jimmy 3 months but he found a doctor, and enlisted in the army the next day. Jimmy honorably served in the army from 1967-1970 as an air traffic controller at Fort Lennonwood, MO and was honorably discharged as a sergeant SP5.

JP and I want to thank Jimmy’s Primary Care Denise, the nurses in the Chemo room at the VA, especially Abby and Emma the psychologist. He gave them a run for their money and kept them laughing. The team at Old Colony Hospice, April his nurses Aide who made sure he was scrubbed for company. His nurses Gina, Jessica, Justine, Kiera and especially Tina Jimmy’s head nurse and all the people at Old Colony who came to our house. Jimmy fired them all and kept them busy and laughing.

Jimmy lived life on his terms. “He did it all and took the fall and did it his way.”

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded War Veterans or the South Boston Special Kids and Young Adults.

A final prayer will be held at The Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston on Friday, January 9th at 9:00a.m. then a procession to Massachusetts National Cemetery for services with honors at 11:15 a.m.
