Janis Helene Price died peacefully on December 13, 2025, after a sudden diagnosis with a rare leukemia. She was born in Brockton, MA, in 1946.
Janis, “Nana.” was an exceptional mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, and wife. She was steady, thoughtful, blessed with an infectious laugh, and deeply devoted to the people she loved. Janis graduated from Brockton Highschool in 1964 and received her bachelor’s degree from UMASS Amherst in 1968. She was first married (1970-1986) to Wesley E Price and had three children. She bravely raised them as a single mom. She was an amazing mother who provided for her family with fierce determination and love. She spent many years as an early childhood educator on Cape Cod and in Upstate New York. She worked as a kindergarten teacher and then an admin for a few private, non-profit schools. At the age of 50, she earned a Master’s degree from Lesley College in Conflict Resolution & Peaceable Skills, reflecting her lifelong commitment to kindness, understanding, and peace. People who know her not only felt her warmth but witnessed genuine compassion and joy. Nana opened her home to many, through the years, with her large and loving heart. She made time for you & saw you. She always wanted to know where you were and for you to call when you got there.
She is survived by her husband and soulmate of 27 years, Steven Gervickas; her sister, Beverly Baran; her favorite cousin, Susan Lang; her children, Rebecca VonBergen (Erik) and Wesley D. Price; her grandchildren, Maeve Noone-Price, Lily Plotkin, Sofi Plotkin, Niveck VonBergen, Braelyn VonBergen, and Lucy Price; along with loving nieces and a nephew, and dear friends Alice (Joe) Perdue, Linda (Don) Sage, and Frank Kilduff. She was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Bethany Price; her younger sister, Rosiland Davis; and her mother, Louise (Koresky) Lang father, Jerome Lang and stepmother, Margaret (“Peggy”) Lang.
In retirement, she and Steven continued their life together on Cape Cod. They delighted in simple joys and favorite places—the Windmill in South Yarmouth, Gray’s Beach in Yarmouth Port, Cape Cod Creamery, and Captain Frosty’s & Kreme & Kone Restaurant. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, loved walking Cape beaches with Steven, reading, and playing a competitive game of Scrabble. Most of all, she cherished time spent with family.
She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Nana, we know you’ll call when you get there…
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Non-Profit Cape Cod Toy Library in her honor.
