WORCESTER-Athena (Tsagari) Loukanari, 100, formerly of 130 Copperfield Road, died Tuesday September 3rd in UMass Memorial Healthcare-Belmont Street Campus. Her husband Stefanos Loukanari died in 1946. She leaves 3 sons; Nicholas Loukanari of Lynn, Athanasios Loukanari of Messologi, Greece, and Spiro Loukanari of Athens, Greece, 2 daughters; Penelope Avgouleas of Athens, Greece and Irene Ziogas of Worcester, 2 brothers; Arestomanis and Constantinos Tsagari and a sister, Agapoula Kolitgakis all of Athens, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A son John Loukanari of Athens predeceased her.
She was born in Sparti, Greece the daughter of Dimitri and Penelope Tsagari, and came to Worcester in 1968. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and it’s Senior Group.
The funeral will be Friday, September 6th, from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, September 5th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
