Donald H. Racine, 68, of New Bedford died Seprember 4, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a courageous, inspiring battle with cancer. He was the husband of Barbara (Rock) Racine, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Victor and Rachel (Desorcy) Racine, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Racine was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River for his years of service to his parish. He was a volunteer at Holy Family - Holy Name School.
Mr. Racine was formerly employed by New England Power, Brayton Point Station, for over 30 years retiring as control room engineer.
He enjoyed travel, photography, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Racine, and his wife Michele, of Fairhaven, Rev. Michael Racine, chaplain at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, and Paul Racine, and his wife Laurel, of North Attleboro; a daughter, Cathy Racine-Sparks, and her husband Robert, of Johnstown, NY; three brothers, Louis Racine of Westport, George Racine of Acushnet and Normand Racine of Avon, CT; a sister, Theresa Hallett of Dartmouth; five grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley, Sean, Adam and Vivian; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Roland Racine and Doris Donahue.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, September 8th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday, September 7th from 4-8 PM.
Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery.
