If you took the titles of “Mayor”, “Goodwill Ambassador” and “Daily Greeter” and rolled them up all into one job description you’d come fairly close to the mission that Lucille (Pelissier) Hebert took upon herself to perform in her eight years at The Holiday Retirement Home (“The Holiday”). While neither elected or appointed to the position, Lu was indeed a presence to be reckoned with and a beacon of friendliness to her fellow residents, staff and visitors alike.
Lucille Laurette (Pelissier) Hebert died peacefully Friday evening December 12, 2025 at The Holiday in Manville. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph George Hebert. Lucille and Joe were married on July 28, 1956 and shared 58 years together until his passing in June of 2015.
Born on August 2, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Giguere) Pelissier. She was a proud lifelong resident of Woonsocket’s Bernon district where she made her home for all of her 93 years. In her earlier years, Lu worked at Woonsocket’s famed U.S. Rubber Shop. Later in her life she dedicated herself to providing in-home care for her mother-in-law Marie (Bissonette) Hebert.
Lucille was a generous and dependable supporter of the gaming industry as evidenced by her patronage at local casinos. Closer to home Lu’s pastimes included crocheting, cribbage, jig-saw puzzles, word search, watercolors and puzzles. Lu was also was the keeper of local and family history and relished talking about it with anyone who was interested. Lu also celebrated her summertime birthday with a giant lobster roll from Kay’s (just melted butter, never mayo.)!
In December 2017, Lu made a transition in her life as she moved to her new home at The Holiday. As the next eight years unfolded Lucille Hebert made her presence known through the hallways and corners of The Holiday. She settled ultimately into her role as “Mayor and Official Greeter” seated at her ever-present station (front door, take a left down the hall). You couldn’t miss her. Most hours, day or evening, you’d find Lu at her station. Never at a loss for a smile and her salutation of “How you doin’?” Lucille became a hallway mainstay. The entire Holiday staff are commended for their consistent professional and personal skills while fostering a homelike and family atmosphere. Special recognition goes out to Kim Musa (Admissions Director) for her daily friendship and love to Lu.
In addition to her parents Lucille was predeceased by her beloved brothers Roland H. Pelissier and Edgar “Brother” Pelissier. Lu is survived by her nephew and caregiver Gary R. Pelissier of Cumberland and his family along with her extended family of many cousins and their families. Lu also leaves her lifelong friend Jacqueline Beauchemin and her family and her goddaughters Janet Gamache and Karen Wrenn all of Woonsocket.
Everyone is welcome to gather to honor, remember and pray for Lucille at her funeral Friday, December 19th at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Lu will be laid to rest with her family at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting hours are Thursday from 3:00-6:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Lu’s memory to either the Holiday Retirement Home Activities Dept. 30 Sayles Hill Rd. Manville, RI. 02838 or Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island 70 Bath St. Providence. RI 02908.
