Obituary

Marlene Gail Mayfield
June 14, 1952-December 12, 2025

Marlene Gail (Redlin) Mayfield, 73, of Anderson, IN passed peacefully on December 12, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. She was born June 14, 1952 in Knox, IN, the daughter of Harold and Verniece (May) Redlin.

She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at Purdue University, where she met her husband of 51 years, Steve. They were married May 18, 1974 in Knox. They had 2 daughters, Lisa and Michelle, and began a life together devoted to God and to their family. Marlene received her Master’s Degree at Indiana State University, leading to a lifetime full of careers that helped others. She worked at the Terre Haute Day Nursery, Terre Haute Deanery, Furman University, and Purdue University. Volunteering was at the center of everything Marlene did. She loved any opportunity to help, and regularly volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, the Soup Kitchen Ministry, and St. Vincent Hospital. If she wasn’t found giving of her time there, she was sitting in the bleachers, on the field, or in an auditorium watching her three grandchildren in all of their activities. Throughout life, Marlene rarely missed a game, a meet, a competition, a recital, or a program that her kids or grandkids were in. If they were performing, she was in the audience. Along with her love of cooking, sewing, and gardening, Marlene loved the peacefulness of nature. Traveling with her husband and family to new locations became a highlight and a goal each year. She always wanted to experience life with those she loved. A lifelong Catholic, her faith was at the root of everything she did, and what she will be remembered for the most by those closest to her. Her legacy continues in her husband, children, and grandchildren who all share her faith.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Steven Mayfield of Anderson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Neil Thompson of Anderson, and Michelle and Matthew Friend of Muncie; three grandchildren, Abigail Friend, Carter Friend, and Emma Thompson; her brother, Dennis Redlin of Winamac, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Metzger officiating on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Anderson.
