Obituary

BUXTON- Michael Allen Maguire, age 55, passed away peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by his loving family after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer on December 10th, 2025.
Michael was born on September 7th, 1970, at Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital in Medford Oregon to Joyce M. (Gerhke) Maguire and John F. Maguire. Mike was a loving husband to Valerie S. (Hillock) Maguire and brother to John F. Maguire Jr. of Windham, Shawn P. Maguire of Waterville, and Matthew Dearborn of Limerick.
Mike grew up in Camp Ellis, Maine after moving with his family from the west coast and he attended Saco schools. He had several jobs after school. He enjoyed cooking jobs, and his most recent job of 14 years was with Seacoast Scaffolding where Mike worked as a builder. He often traveled out of state for the job from Monday- Thursday, returning home on Friday’s. His good friend Tom McGee, who looked to Mike as a mentor, made getting through the weeks a little more bearable!
After living in Hollis for several years, he met Valerie in 2015 and settled with her at her home in Buxton in 2017 and they were married on February 9th, 2024. Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing on his boat; he even competed in bass tournaments on various lakes in Maine. He enjoyed four-wheeling and walking in the woods. He was a huge animal lover and for most animals, the feeling was mutual. He often said that he would “rather be in the woods with a camera instead of a gun.” He and Valerie spent many summers afternoons four-wheeling the woods behind their home.
He was predeceased by his father, John, who unexpectedly passed away in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of just under 2 years, Valerie, his mother, Joyce of Saco, brother John and his girlfriend Shannon, brother Shawn and his wife Jessica, brother Matthew and his wife Karen, his daughter Kat, nephews Johnny, Jack and Logan Maguire, two stepdaughters Elizabeth and her husband Dan, Stephanie and her boyfriend Zack. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren- Brynlee, Brighton and Mason.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 17th, 2026, at Skips Lounge in Buxton, Maine from 1pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions towards Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough and/or to the Brownville Food Pantry for Deer would be very appreciated.
The Maguire’s would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Gosnell House for all their love and care for Mike in his final days.
